color

you deserve I'm 23 years old. I'm black. I'm a woman. There are so many statistics in between those very words that sadly, to some people it would be a surprise to hear of how I just graduated with a master's degree from a really good school. However, all that withstanding I'm happy and so privileged to say that I live in a society where (higher) education is not only welcomed, it's encouraged and celebrated. I'm happy that my stats are not stats at all but badges of honor I get to don proudly because of the places and way I was raised.

So to those who are told you can't because of you're background or current situation, that your dreams don't suit the color of your skin or your gender, remember that you can either carry your traits like a ball and chain around your ankle or diamonds around your neck.

It doesn't matter what hasn't worked for others before if it works for you now - just go for it! To the meanies (yes, I said meanies) who tell you no, pay them no mind. Focus on yourself and using your own badges of honor to help you cross that finish line. Know that when you are ready I and a few others will be waiting to cheer you on - roses and all. Anyone who takes the time out to go for their goals should be celebrated.

You are worthy of celebration.

I forget that God has a bigger plan for me than I do for myself. I forget that  He has a better vantage point from where He stands than I do. At times I get impatient with my current stage. Sometimes it feels like I could do so much more in other places or with different people. Fortunately enough I was reading a friend’s blog, Rivers && Roads and came across this quote that you see above. How humbling it was for God to remind me that He doesn’t “slow” me down to hold me back but to prepare me. To grow me. Because He loves me.

Handmade Love

I’ve recently fallen more in love with quality handcrafted things- leather goods, jewelry, hair accessories, typography, you name it, I love it. With that said, I decided to try my hand at making greeting cards. The other day I came up with a few rough ideas of some unconventional but comical ones.

Please note, I said rough. I still have a bit more to go but at least you get the concept. Growing up as the 4th of five children, cards like these  would have been perfect.

Besides those ones I also want to make birthday cards. My friend’s birthday was a few days ago so who better to practice on than her!

Next thing on the “To Perfect List” is handwritten type.

Designed this little fun finder for the kiddos at my church today as a surprise. Can’t wait to give it to them! However, for the rest of yas, I put up a special link here just so you could download one for your kiddo (or inner-child) to complete.

The Doors

… on the streets around my campus are divine! I’ve been taking classes the the University of New South Wales for around a month now and everyday my walk to campus has introduced me to some colorful views. During my four years at the University of Oregon I don’t think I appreciated my beautiful campus until the last two terms of my senior year (womp, womp, womp). Well, I have definitely learned this time not to take beauty for granted.
